Champagne Jacquart, the distinguished champagne house based in Reims, celebrated its 60th anniversary in splendid fashion, hosting an exquisite cruise along the Thames, blessed with perfect weather — a rarity for late October.
As we sailed past London’s iconic landmarks, the sounds of conviviality and clinking glasses filled the air, marking a joyous tribute to a remarkable journey that began in 1964, when a group of visionary winegrowers embarked on a bold adventure to establish a new kind of champagne house, one firmly rooted in the principles of terroir and collaboration.
London’s skyline provided a stunning backdrop as we sampled Jacquart’s finest offerings — Mosaïque Brut, Mosaïque Rosé, Cuvée Alpha 2014 and a majestic Magnum 60 Ans. Each sip served as a tribute to the house’s legacy of craftsmanship and commitment to quality.
Born during the sweeping cultural shifts of the 1960s — when the Beatles topped the charts, the Swinging Sixties were truly swinging and Bond mania had the world in its grip — Jacquart emerged with a pioneering spirit that still defines it today. Champagne Jacquart was the vision of some thirty artisan winegrowers prepared to share their talents and outstanding vineyards to produce fine wines, encapsulated in a world-class brand.
That idea marked the inception of the Mosaïque concept, literally a mosaic of Crus, terroirs and talents, and their signature Mosaïque blend unites the finest Crus from across Champagne, capturing the essence of each vineyard in a harmonious, distinctive taste that has become its hallmark.
Guiding us through this liquid journey was Joëlle Weiss, Jacquart’s House Oenologist, whose insights and tasting notes added depth to each pour. From the white fruits and lemon zest notes of the Mosaïque to the minerality complementing the aromas of pear, apple and brioche notes on the nose of their classic Brut, our flutes certainly runneth over as we understood the mosaic of terroirs, vines and talents that go into crafting these stellar champagnes.
Raising our glasses to toast six decades of achievement, it was impossible not to feel that Jacquart’s tale is still very much in the making. New chapters and vintages await on the horizon. So, here’s to Jacquart — may its timeless elegance and enduring vision continue to sparkle for years to come!
We were exceptionally lucky to have the first taste globally of the Cuvée Alpha 2014. This will be available to purchase in the UK in December through The Great Wine Company, where currently you can find the Alpha 2012, the Signature, and Mosaïque.
