Anticipated to be one of the most exciting events to take place at the National Portrait Gallery in 2016, Vogue 100: A Century of Style will celebrate the 100 years of cutting-edge fashion, beauty and portrait photography which British Vogue has pioneered since being founded in 1916, with over 280 prints from the Condé Nast archive and international collections brought together for the first time.
Curated by current contributing editor of British Vogue, Robin Muir, with theatre and opera set designer Patrick Kinmonth as artistic director, this exhibition promises to take visitors on an immersive journey through the greatest moments of the magazine’s history, whilst exploring decade by decade how it has remained at the forefront of new fashion and the UK’s wider cultural stage.
Unpublished work and original magazines will stand shoulder to shoulder with ground-breaking photographs taken from renowned fashion shoots and the lenses of leading twentieth-century photographers such as Cecil Beaton, Lee Miller, Irving Penn and Snowdon, with more recent work including iconic images by David Bailey, Corinne Day and Mario Testino, all of which succeed in reinforcing British Vogue’s keen editorial eye and dedication to world-class photography, as well as its role in nurturing new talent.
On 16th April, Late Shift will run a Vogue 100 After Hours event from 6pm – 10pm, encouraging guests to dress to impress for a unique evening celebrating a century of style with glamorous cocktails and fabulous music. There will be the opportunity to pose in the gallery’s pop-up photo studio, listen to talks on photography, beauty and fashion and get the chance to see the exhibition after hours. Tickets (£30) must be booked in advance.
For the ultimate fashion experience the Gallery has partnered with Claridge’s hotel and British Vogue to create the ‘Vogue100 with Claridge’s’ package (priced from £650), giving guests the chance to enjoy an overnight stay with champagne upon arrival, two manicures at the Claridge’s Health Club & Spa, breakfast for two, a pair of tickets for Vogue100: A Century of Style at the National Portrait Gallery and a signed copy of the exhibition catalogue by the curator and British Vogue’s Contributing Editor Robin Muir.
