The Dining Room at The Goring

When it comes to London’s finest dining institutions, 20th May marks a celebratory date for our diaries. That is the official reopening of The Goring hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, The Dining Room, following an extensive redesign – and it’s set to reveal a feast for the eyes as well as the appetites.

The jewel of Belgravia, The Goring has always been in a class of its own. Being the last remaining family-owned luxury hotel in London, it’s set its own stride in the world of exceptional hospitality, delivered with impeccable manners and a subtle streak of wit. Ahem, attributes not unlike our own, wouldn’t you say? Add to that a sublime dining experience, and you have something truly special – and it’s gone up several gears with the new-look dining room.

For this enviable project, owner Jeremy Goring had only one name in mind for the project to suite the sensibilities of the hotel, designer Russell Sage. With a CV that includes the Banking Hall, 1890 at the Savoy and the Belmond Cadogan, Sage has drawn inspiration for the interiors from London’s Royal palaces and grand residences, creating a rich colour palette with bold red furnishings set against Fromental wallpaper in a bespoke green floral design, with some whimsical hand-painted finishing touches.

By day, The Dining Room will be flooded with natural light, and by night, cossetting dining experiences will be created through the plush fabrics, corner sofas, and twinkling chandeliers reflecting gold detailing.

But there’s more. For the first time in its century-long history, a completely new kitchen has been fitted, providing Executive Chef Graham Squire and the team an enlivening space from which to produce the restaurant’s seasonal British dishes. To whet your appetite, highlights from the new menu include roast Orkney scallop, pea, lemon verbena and brown butter; Cornish monkfish, mussels, seaweed, gooseberry and herbs; and Rhug Estate lamb, hot pot pie, lamb fat carrot, pickles and BBQ gem relish.

And for those favouring the The Goring’s signature dishes, including Eggs Drumkilbo and their renowned lobster omelette, these have also be reimagined, ensuring their deserving place on the menus for the relaunch.

A whimsical, theatrical atmosphere will permeate The Dining Room, with lively music, witty design details, and artful service. Showstopping trolleys will glide through the space, providing tableside service in the form of classic Champagne cocktails, sharing dishes of beef wellington and stuffed turbot, and head-turning Rum Baba Flambé.

Think of it not so much a return to form as introducing a new era at one of London’s dining institutions.

The Dining Room at The Goring will reopen on Monday 20 May, serving lunch and dinner seven days a week. Bookings are now open. The Goring, 15 Beeston Place, London SW1W 0JW. For more information, please visit www.thegoring.com and follow on Instagram @thegoring.
