Wednesday 27th January saw the opening of HOP, the latest venture by Michelin starred restaurateur brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, a party attended by Monica Galetti, Tracy Emin and Galvin at Windows’ very own match-matching maitre’d Fred Sirieix of First Dates fame.
On the site of the former Galvin Café A Vin, HOP is located on Spital Square in the heart of the City, adjoining the group’s acclaimed fine dining restaurant, La Chapelle, and is the flagship of their recently created Galvin Pub Co, with a second venue, the Green Man due to open in Chelmsford this summer.
The new ‘Pub de Luxe’ concept is designed to offer high quality versions of the humble bar snacks we all know and love, whilst being an exciting addition to an area well known for enjoying seriously long business lunches. Oh yes.
Guests were treated to a taste of the mouth-watering new menu in the form of gourmet mini hot dogs smothered in Maille’s black truffle mustard, mini fish pies, scotch eggs, game pies, sausage rolls and treacle tarts, all washed down with fresh unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell Tank Beer, wine on tap, or champagne for those who wouldn’t dream of attending a party without it. It’s fair to say, I haven’t seen a bar that heaving since New Year’s Eve.
Goody bags contained signed copies of Chris and Jeff’s book, Galvin: A Cookbook de Luxe, Pilsner beers with accompanying drinks coasters (what every girl wants) and the famous Maille black truffle mustard to try at home. Thanks guys, we’ll be back soon!
