The Arbuturian were delighted to attend the recent launch of South Kensington’s newest joint, K Bar, at The Kensington hotel, now live and kicking and ready to serve you the finest tipples in the heart of the Royal Borough…
Oozing 1930s glamour, and inspired by the sophisticated atmosphere of a gentlemen’s club, the bar formerly known as ‘Aubrey’s’ has been miraculously transformed with the help of genius interior designer Alexander Waterworth and now features dim lighting, accents of polished brass, oak panelling with integrated bookcases, all softened by plush royal blue velvet bar stools, banquettes and leather wing armchairs. I mean to say!
And naturally we were only too happy to sample some of the exciting cocktails on offer including the Tahona Fizz, with Don Julio Blanco tequila, celery bitters, sugar & champagne; the romantic-sounding Rose Petal, with Cointreau, rose syrup, lemon juice and champagne; and the classic-style Kensington Champagne Cocktail, with Calvados apple brandy, Rhubarb bitters, sugar and champagne. Perfectly balanced and never verging on the sickly-sweet, they were each mixed expertly enough to convert even a die-hard conscientious cocktail objector.
Unique for this part of town, which is quite frankly sorely lacking a decent and suitably elegant bar where chaps can show a girl a good time following dinner or a turn at the nearby Royal Albert Hall, irrelevant of its newness, K Bar is already buzzing with the sounds of old-time jazz and smouldering in the atmospheric glow reminiscent of pre-war Paris. We’re almost reluctant to share this recommendation with our readers, so keep it under your hat OK?
