Nuj Novakhett is a New York based womenswear designer, whose eponymous line is already a best seller across the US, with a host of celebrity fans including Jennifer Aniston, Heidi Klum, Rachel Bilson, Selena Gomez, Helena Christensen, Chloe Sevigny and Kim Kardashian.
Since launching in 2006, Thai American Novakhett (pronounced Newzj Nova-ket), has regularly showcased her collections at New York Fashion Week, with a highly trend-focused, sexy and sweet aesthetic, inspired by the glamour of the Big Apple and elements of vintage chic.
Her S/S 11 collection was a mélange of urban meets retro – featuring a burst of citrus and neons in pleated swathes and cut-away fabrics across mini dresses, playsuits and shorts with jackets. There were also touches of monochrome, graphic and animal prints, and a stand-out 50’s style bikini.
Now as the bold brights of summer fade into winter pales, her AW 11/12 collection is a signature mix of classic styles including figure-hugging canvas dresses, cropped jackets, bare-front chiffon tops, and a backless silk dress – perfect for an ‘under the mistletoe’ moment at that Christmas party.
It’s a collection which strikes a balance between flirty shapes and shades with an ultra feminine edge, and the cool minimalism of the coming season. As Novakhett says, “The colour of springtime is in the flowers, the colour of winter is underneath the coats”.
